Taitung Souvenirs Travel Tips & Information!

Siaoyeliou – Just a couple of kilometers north of Taitung city this beach offers the most beautiful rock formations on the southern coast. It follows the old train track out to near the new train station before heading back along the river eventually going through the Forest and Seashore Parks. When the hotel staff recommended fried chicken, I thought I heard wrongly as I was rather surprised since fried chicken is so common place and how good can fried chicken taste in Taitung.
Lisong Hot Spring (栗松溫泉) is one of the most beautiful wild hot springs in Taiwan. The spring is known for its vibrant green and yellow colors painting the cliff from which it seeps down into 鐵花村伴手禮 riverside pools. This attraction is definitely off-the-beaten-track for international travelers. They offer free pick-up from Luye train station, but communication could be difficult.

Everything catches the eye, whether it’s the aromatic coffee delivered in lacquered mugs or the lazy wind of a bamboo boat. While I love taking photos of every country I visit, I will admit that sometimes – photos aren’t enough. Tiehua Music Village is lit up with miniature hot air balloon lanterns in the evening. Taitung City converted several buildings of the old railway station into a exhibition space for local artists and artist in residence. The rooms are more spacious in this hotel and the bright designs of the rooms are both cute and whimsical.

The Platform of the Three Immortals, or Sanxiantai (三仙台), it the most awe-inspiring human-made sight along the east coast of Taiwan. The dragon-like 320-meter bridge curves up and down as it leads out to a small island off the coast. Grab a coffee from Jinzun Café (金樽咖啡), whose café offers an unbeatable view. This small aboriginal village along the highway features a collection of surf hostels, cozy guesthouses, and hippie vibes.
Note that the Railway Village is quite a ways from the Taitung Train Station, so it’s best to get there by taxi or scooter, or on the Taiwan Tourism shuttle. If have more time in Taitung city, the city’s hippest attraction is Railway Art Village (鐵道藝術村, often abbreviated to 鐵化村 or Tiehua Village / tiehua cun). This is Taitung’s answer to Huashan Creative Park in Taipei, Cultural Heritage Park in Taichung, and Pier 2 Arts Center in Kaohsiung.
A second option for getting from Taitung to Kenting is the slow route that mostly sticks to the east coast. Regarded as one of the most picturesque coastlines in Taiwan, the East Coast National Scenic Area is shared by Hualien and Taitung. The Provincial Highway 11 runs parallel to the coast and it is a stunning driving and cycling route between Hualien and Taitung. The coral reef coastal landforms like Sanxiantai and Xiaoyeliu 小野柳 showcase fascinating rock features. A conducive rest stop and lookout spot, Jialulan Recreation Area 加路蘭遊憩區 is a seaside art park with interesting driftwood art installations.

Even in the rain we could appreciate the beauty of the clouds hanging low below the mountains. In all, Orchid Island is a very different society to mainland Taiwan, it's well worth a visit. Eating vegetarian meals is an essential part of the Buddhist faith in Taiwan. So if you are vegetarian or vegan, whether for religion or lifestyle, you will not go hungry. National Taitung University Library is an exquisite modern architecture built in harmony with the surrounding nature.
When reaching the bottom, the hot spring would be on your LEFT side. You can see a small part of the colored rock with a bit of steaming. You need to cross the water (around above the knee height - middle October, heavy rain few days before), and circumvent the rock from across the where you started, towards the hot spring. Some of the trees were starting changing colors to a bit dark red/yellow-ish when we visited in middle October .
Despite the challenging journey up there, I recommend visiting at night for its breathtaking view. These outdoor arts villages frequently host live performances, concerts, and handmade markets. The coastal park highlights unique rock formations naturally created by marine erosion. If Yehliu has the Queen’s Head, Xiao Yehliu has mushrooms, tofu, etc. Lisong Hot Spring is a perfect destination for outdoor adventurers and hikers.
