We saw a few more Malaita White-eyes during the morning, but the species was not common in the area. Midget Flowerpeckers on the other hand proved common and we enjoyed several good views of this tiny bird with males sporting a deep red chest patch. A bit further down the track a suspicious call note had us stop and we soon called in a pair of Red-vested or Red-bellied Myzomela, a very rare find. We saw the male briefly, with deep red offset by jet-black, but the pair flew off. We located another female or juvenile myzomela later in the morning and even obtained some scope views of this seldom seen species. A small feeding flock nearby contained the endemic Black-and-white Monarch and Chestnut-bellied Monarch, while noisy Yellow-bibbed and Cardinal Lories raced through the canopy.

If time permits I'm thinking of walking down to Bali West Bank and maybe visit the Shihsanhang Archeology Museum there before taking a boat/ferry to Tamsui. I drove around Taiwan back in 2018 and was pain free, just be mindful of scooters in your blind spot and as you turn into a street as you know there are alot of them. Drive as you would here, take your time and get use to the indicators/controls etc before driving off.

What was possibly a 20km trip turned out to be may be 50km! We have no GPS and if we had one it would be in Chinese, perhaps that would be better than Anna’s iPhone GPS, perhaps not. Lilly and I are still on speaking terms notwithstanding the navigator blaming the driver and vice versa.
