Spending 1 Beautiful Night Camping in the Desert in Morocco

Spending 1 Beautiful Night Camping in the Desert in Morocco

Waving a fond farewell to the solitude of the Agafay, you’ll carry onto your final stop, high up in the Atlas Mountains. But before you can settle in at your luxurious Kasbah, you’ll spend the day hiking through the Atlas Mountains, discovering local Berber villages and enjoying lunch alongside some locals. Having soaked in the panoramic vistas, check in at your home between the palm groves, Kasbah Tamadot, for a final three nights of bliss, best spent by the fireside bar and serene infinity pool. Cosied up in one of the luxuriously decked-out Berber tents, your love affair with Morocco will be sealed. We spent about an hour taking in the view, shooting photos and chatting with our guide before heading back to camp. After a picturesque breakfast, we had opted for a camel ride before the sun got too high in the sky.
The main complaint was that the car rental companies were shady, and would try to charge you for scratches that were already on the car. Overall, it was an unforgettable and relaxing 2-night morocco tour stay and I wouldn’t change anything about it. I feared it would fall over and I’d get struck by lightning and die . But those tents are pretty sturdy and we survived the storm.

This pairs great with the scarf mentioned above to keep blowing sand out of your eyes, and of course the bright sun. If I hadn’t worn glasses I’d have not seen most of the journey with the sand flying around. Deserts are a land of extremes, temperatures can range from dangerously hot in the summertime to downright freezing cold in the winter!
It had rained recently so our drive through this part of the Sahara Desert was through a mass of wildflowers. Try to avoid visiting the dunes in July and August because the winds are brutal and almost unbearable to explore the dunes, not to mention the extremely hot temperatures during the day. Our guides obviously knew this spot, and we stared over the dunes to witness the most spectacular sunrise. It was very slow to rise, and I was surprised to feel the temperature immediately rise, as we watched the magical show courtesy of mother nature. There was practically zero light pollution and we could see every planet and star of the milky way so clearly.

Every single day in your trip is tailored according to your personal interests, physical conditions and schedules. Many tours will stop in the town of Ouarzazate or a nearby city for one night, then continue on the next morning. This is a great way to break up an otherwise very long drive.
For a highly-reviewed, long-established desert camp in Merzouga, Golden Camp & Oasis is a one of the best choices for a Sahara Desert camp in Morocco. Of those places, Ouarzazate and Tinghir have the most accommodation options and will likely be the most comfortable place to spend the night. Since you’re aiming for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I say get all the way out to the Sahara Desert — you won’t regret it. I’ll also give you a quick run-down of what to expect at your Sahara Desert luxury camp, so you can be prepared. We stopped to have delicious Moroccan mint tea in the middle of the desert and then headed back to camp.
But I asked the tour operator what we could wear while still being respectful as it is so very hot there. Essentially, summer clothes that are sort of modest are a-okay. While I wouldn’t wear shorts in other areas of Morocco, it felt fine here in the camp. When we arrived we were greeted with smiles, lemon juice , and a variety of snacks to nibble on at the main tent. After that, we were showed to our glamping spot and we rested for a bit before dinner.

A guided hike in Morocco’s mountain range offers you the ideal conditions to sleep outside at night . Its iconic environs and witness  the incredible fiery orange/red sunrises and sunsets. A huge crocodile head marks the main entrance of the park. An innovative concept and a unique project in Agadir, in the south of morocco.
If you have a car and prefer to drive, be advised that the roads will be windy and narrow. In order to get to the desert, you must  pass through the Atlas mountains. If it’s not too windy, grab a cup of coffee or tea and walk to the top of a nearby sand dune.

Day 2 is a jam-packed day, in the morning you will head off for the oasis town of Tinghir via the ‘Road of 1001 Kasbahs’. We turn our travel experiences into detailed guides which we hope will make travel easier for others. As far as camping goes, if I don’t have to cook my own food over a fire or fish it out of a cooler of melted ice cubes in the morning, I’m calling it fancy. Well, it was at least as delicious as food anywhere in Morocco. (As vegetarians, Moroccan food is about as boring as you can get. It’s really just roasted root vegetables.) Breakfast was traditional Moroccan breakfast, which means a variety of breads and spreads.

Booking through a local expert saves time, money, and stress and assures that your itinerary is co-ordinated perfectly. It’s likely your camp will be a simple affair, with both bedding and basic toilet facilities, but little else. Blankets provided are usually sufficient for most visitors between April and October. You may like to bring your own sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially during the months between November and March.
