In today's volatile world, with economic crises, wars and terrorist threats, social work is vital for people in all countries. The population, especially vulnerable groups, cannot withstand certain difficulties on their own.
Canadian educationalist Colleen MacDonell looked at interactive storytelling techniques, focusing on dialogic reading. She has worked in Azerbaijani schools for five years, has learned Azerbaijani and is taking courses to learn the kamancha – an Azerbaijani national instrument. She explained that dialogic reading enables very young children – maybe with no or few words – to become readers, following stories through pictures. Mrs MacDonell stressed emphasized that it is initially important to find a book that the children actually like, and then let them take over and become the story-teller, using the pictures as a point of discussion, and possibly inspire them to read.

A series of training was held with overall 40 medical staff from Sumgait Perinatal Centre, Absheron Central District Hospital and the Scientific Research Pediatric Institute, as well as 42 students and residents of Azerbaijan Medical University. After the training, students and residents who participated provided information to 250 women in 8 women's clinics in Baku through face-to-face meetings and the distribution of information booklets. These vital diagnoses of heredity diseases of children were done in regional perinatal centres and hospitals from July to October 2021. As part of the risk communication activities embedded into the initiative, more than 200 volunteers from the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society distributed communication materials in public spaces such as markets, information centres and bus stations. As a result of these activities, nearly 11,000 people were reached directly and over 54,000 indirectly by the end of April 2021.
