Cheap Taitung Deals, Taiwan

Since I'll be in Taipei with my friend for 5 days I will move out of Taipei. I am thinking book a hotel in Kaohsiung and spending two days in this city and use the train for an hour to day trip to Tainan. We then used Express Airport MRT when we returned which was perfect and I’d definitely recommend over taxi/bus if staying near a train station. Also a couple Ubers/Taxi’s when needed outside of MRT which were fairly cheap. MRT – cheap and easy to use and therefore crowded, at peak hour I am reminded of sardines in a tin can. Will take you to most places you want to go in Taipei.
We  were there three weeks ago with the highlight being seeing the Pandas fed at the Taipei Zoo. Do the numbers – how cheap 台東 伴手 for such an amazing experience. The eastern side of the island has very different scenery from the north and west.

Most people I observed walked straight past. I just rented the car near the Taipei Main Station and returned the car at a designated drop off centre in which they transported me back to the airport for my flight. If you stay anywhere walking distance from a Metro stop then you'll be pretty safe – I don't mind the area around central park and then further down the metro line is Sanduo . Will probably have to take some driven tours, as one person has doesn't like walking for far or long.
Pisces Youth Hostel is set in Taitung City and is within a short walk of local attractions, such as Fu An Gong. Guests can also make the most of free internet access throughout the property. Traveller-Inn Tiehua Light Spot Hotel offers a comfortable setting while in Taitung City.
I.e., going to Hualien from Sun Moon Lake is no recommended. Balances on Easy cards can be refunded but you have to surrender it and you wont get the $100 TWD you paid at the start, so only use it if you are not coming back and its your final trip. Or another alternative is doing the East Coast of Taiwan.

Just be very careful when riding, as people tend to just take any possible gap and I've definitely had a few near misses. On that note, when hiring scooters, is it compulsory to have an international drivers permit? I have licences for motorbikes, but not an IDP.
Taiwan is one of my favourite countries in Asia, there is so much to see and do yet it remains under marketed and relatively cheap. It also has natural beauty as well as significant history. Singapore is likely to be a cheaper option owing to the shear amount of seats available, although spot specials to Osaka could tilt that option to being lower at times. Etstar fly but you are more likely to get sales from Singapore so that would require two separate bookings if you go that route...

When it's time to fly off, allow yourself extra time to get to Kaohsiung International Airport . Sitting 110 kilometres to the southwest from downtown Chishang, this is the closest terminal. Start your night the right way with a splash of a local favourite like golden muscat or shaoxing. Taste for balance, structure and texture, or just have a bottle with friends.
Sky Walk with cloud view throughoutThe walk from the south entrance ended at a touristy food court, located near Green Green Grassland. We ordered some simple Taiwan dishes from one of the aggressive vendors. Luckily, food was not as awful as its online reputation. Breakfast with a view at Hu Yue Lakeview HotelWe checked out of Hu Yue Lakeview Hotel and started our real sightseeing tour of Sun Moon Lake. How many frogs you see that day would determine how high the water level is. While I was collecting the WiFi, my partner was a short distance away, at another counter collecting our prebooked rental car.
I actually stayed near the kaohsiung main station which is near where the old station was. Anyway that's what i suggest based on what i know. The hsr station is kind of far like up near the lake with the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. Alan Chou our tour guide was fantastic....informative and took care of all our questions and concerns.
